Cards cannot be activated or do not work at the turnstile
- Before you start
- A USB card reader suitable for Bausicht and access cards with a compatible chip for reading and activation.
- Where to find it
- USB card reader at the PC; for denied access, Attendances → List → More filters → Failed entry attempts only
Quick answer
If a card does not work at the turnstile after activation, first check the reason under Attendances → List in Bausicht. An unsuitable USB card reader may read the card ID incorrectly. If the correct desktop reader beeps during activation but nothing happens, connect it directly to the PC. If the same card triggers no beep at either the USB card reader or the turnstile, check the card type and whether it contains a chip.
The card is read incorrectly or reported as unknown at the turnstile
An unsuitable USB card reader may read the card ID in an incorrect format, for example in decimal format or with only 8 characters. This can cause activation to fail. Activation may also succeed, but the card is then not recognised at the turnstile.
If the card has already been activated, follow these steps:
- Open Attendances → List in Bausicht.
- Under More filters, choose the type Failed entry attempts only.
- Check the reason for the affected access attempt. If it says “Unknown access card” or “An unknown access card was used”, the card ID was probably read incorrectly. In this case, an unsuitable USB card reader is likely being used.
Solution: Use a USB card reader suitable for Bausicht to read and activate the cards. Successful activation alone does not confirm that the reader read the card ID correctly.
If Attendances shows a different reason, use that message to guide further troubleshooting.
The correct USB card reader lights up red and beeps but activation does not respond
The correct USB card reader is connected and lights up red. It beeps when you present the card, but nothing happens in the Activate access card dialog.
Likely cause: The reader is connected through a USB hub.
- Unplug the card reader from the USB hub.
- Connect it directly to a USB port on the PC.
- With the Activate access card dialog open, present the card to the reader again.
The card triggers no beep at either the USB card reader or the turnstile
Present the same card to both the USB card reader and the card reader at the turnstile. If neither reader beeps, the cards are probably the wrong type or plastic cards without a chip.
Solution: Purchase replacement access cards with a chip compatible with the readers in use. Plain plastic cards without a chip cannot be used with these card readers.
