Connect the X3 access terminal with a mobile router

On this page
Connect the power supply, router and terminal step by step and check the connection (4:45 minutes).

What you need

  • Terminal with card reader: Zucchetti X3
  • Mobile router: Teltonika OTD140
  • Power supply (PoE injector): Dahua TAM1GT1GT-30
  • Long black network cable from the power supply to the router
  • Short grey network cable from the router to the terminal

The terminal and router are weatherproof and are mounted outdoors at the access point. The power supply is not weatherproof and must stay dry, for example in the site distribution box. Power runs over the network cables from the power supply to the router and from the router to the terminal, so only the power supply needs a socket.

Important: Connect the devices one after the other, the router first, then the terminal. If both are switched on at the same time, the terminal sometimes does not start properly.

Step 1: Connect the power supply

  1. Place the power supply in the site distribution box and plug the mains plug into the socket.
  2. The power supply has two ports. You only need one of them: plug the long black cable into DATA&PWR OUT.
  3. The DATA IN port stays free.

Step 2: Mount and connect the router

  1. Screw the router’s mounting plate to the wall at the access point, at about head height. The more open the router’s position, the better the mobile reception.
  2. Slide the router onto the mounting plate from below until it hangs firmly.
  3. Pull off the lower cap. The two ports are underneath.
  4. Drive in the screw next to the label. It secures the router on the mounting plate.
  5. The SIM card is already inserted. It sits in the rear slot SIM 1.
  6. Run the long cable from the site distribution box to the router and first thread it through the knock-out in the removed cap.
  7. Plug it into the ETH PoE IN port. After a short time the lights on the router come on.

Step 3: Connect the terminal

  1. Plug the short grey cable into the router’s second port, ETH PoE OUT, and put the cap back on until it clicks into place.
  2. Screw the terminal’s bracket to the wall next to the router, at about chest height.
  3. On the terminal, open the screw at the bottom centre of the back and remove the cover. The Ethernet PoE socket is behind it on the right side wall.
  4. Use pliers to break out the small plastic tab at the bottom edge in front of the cable so that the cable can pass freely and is not pinched.
  5. Plug in the grey cable until it clicks. Lead it out at the bottom and put the cover back on.
  6. Hook the terminal into the bracket at the top and secure it at the bottom left and right with one screw each.

Step 4: Check the connection

The terminal starts by itself; this takes about one minute. When the time and date are correct, the terminal is connected to Bausicht. Hold an access card in front of the reader as a test. The terminal confirms with a beep.

If something does not work

  1. Terminal stays dark: Check that the long cable is plugged into DATA&PWR OUT on the power supply. DATA IN stays free.
  2. No lights on the router: Check the mains plug and that the long cable is plugged into ETH PoE IN.
  3. No time on the terminal: The router has no reception. Try a more open position for the router.
  4. If none of this helps: Unplug everything and connect the devices one after the other, the router first, then the terminal.
